Chute Gerdeman’s CEO, Brian Shafley, has been inducted into the Retail Design Legion of Honor. The award, presented by the Retail Design Institute, recognizes outstanding lifetime contributions that have influenced and shaped retailing, store design, and the design culture. Over the span of his career, Brian has proven himself to be a creative innovator and industry leader with a passion for pioneering next-generation retail experiences.
“It is an honor to be recognized by RDI,” said Shafley. “I designed a cardboard pet shop inside a Thom McAn shoe box for a fifth-grade school project, and I’ve been hooked ever since. For over 35 years, I’ve shared my joy for stores and design with countless clients, partners, teammates, and students. My motivation each day comes from the opportunity to breathe life into a new idea, a new space or experience that will somehow – even for just a moment – make just one single person happy.”
Enriched by decades of hands-on experience, Brian has helped to create a legion of visionary retail design concepts and transformative brand strategies for top-tier brands including Target, Disney, Whole Foods, Verizon, M&M/Mars, HMSHost, and many more.
He is a frequent speaker, industry champion, and mentor, advocating the role of design as a powerful business tool. With 27 years of senior leadership at Chute Gerdeman, Brian motivates teams to think beyond the now and boldly embrace the emerging global revolution of customer-centric, technology-empowered commerce and community enrichment.
