Cultivating Generational Retail Success
Home to the largest selection of high-quality trees, annuals, perennials, and houseplants on Long Island, Hicks Nurseries has become a staple in the New York City and Long Island communities. 170+ years later and still going strong, the brand knew they needed to re-innovate the experience and re-engage their loyal shoppers.
Our studio set out to bring the worlds of joy and efficiency to the new design. Prior to this project, Hicks struggled with foot traffic and crowded aisles, so we developed a new plan that opens the flow of the store up and increases the aisle size, allowing guests to shop with personal space.
Upon entry, guests are greeted with the greenhouse, a special moment filled with natural light and luscious colors from the plants. The greenhouse is over 15,000 sqft, designed to highlight plenty of different plants and products.
Planting the Seeds of Inspiration
With 70,000 sq ft to work with, it was important to encourage guest exploration by removing walls between zones and and showing a seamless connection from one area to the next. We then tied the Hicks brand into the space via features like a live plant wall, concierge desks, custom signage and more. Newly optimized sightlines paired with custom designed tables and fixtures bring a new sense of energy and quality to the generational brand.
