Over the last few years we’ve watched food markets proliferate the retail landscape. Some centered on a singular culinary point of view, like the Eataly Italian food markets, and others that bring together the best of local offers like the Ferry Building Marketplace in San Francisco and Stir Market in LA. With influences from some of the best global food markets like the Borough in London, these newfound food emporiums attract locals and tourists alike offering prepared meals, local produce and unique dining experiences.

In the heart of New York’s the Financial District, French-style food market Le District joins the pack. The 30,000 square foot space within Brookfield Place is organized into four distinct areas providing something for everyone. Entering the market, guests can explore the Café District to find fanciful French pasties, waffles and crepes all made on-site and enjoyed with a cup of coffee. The core of the culinary experience is the Market District where you’ll find an endless assortment of high-quality meats, seafood, charcuterie and artisanal cheeses. And if you’re not in a rush you can stop by the wine bar to enjoy wine by the glass and specialties from the other markets. Groceries and prepared foods can be found in the Garden District, and if you’re really pressed for time you can place your order ahead and a concierge will prepare for you. Rounding out the French inspired food market experience is the Restaurant District featuring two restaurants, L’Appart and the Beaubourg with an outside terrace and a breathtaking view of the Hudson River.

It’s worth checking out if you find yourself in the neighborhood, or making the trip if you’re not.
