We hold traditions near and dear here at the Icehouse. Come October, in a firm chock full of creative folks, we have just two words for you: Pumpkin + Carving. Bring it on!

This year marks our 6th annual competition and, as befits a trend and visual group, we had a range of clever and topical entries. But how do we focus our creative energy and make the contest a true challenge? By enforcing a strict time limit! Pumpkins may be cleaned out ahead of time, but all carving and decorating must be completed within just 60 minutes. Sounds easy, but trust us, it’s rough. When all is said and done (and carved), we line ‘em up and vote. Here, for your enjoyment, are this year’s finalists.

This expertly carved, branded pumpkin illustrates the short-lived “new” Gap logo. Though it may not go “bump” in the night, it’s scary in its own right! (We love you Gap, but we’re glad you veered away from this.) This little guy won second place.

Elle, our Chute at Chute Gerdeman, created this artistic masterpiece with festive accessories.

This frightening face is actually Oogie Boogie from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Here we have the first-place winning pumpkin, or rather, pumpkins. The glossy gourds are actually promoting a local cupcake and frosting business that belongs to one of our Chuties—Sugarlush Cupcakes & Frostings. What’s not to love about a kooky squash devouring a cupcake?

We have plenty more pics to show you, which is why we’ve assembled them in this photo gallery. Take a look behind the scenes at our creative festivities!
