innovation spotlight
It’s been a very busy year for Chute Gerdeman! With new engagements ranging from high fashion to QSR to online retail, we’ve been fortunate to partner with several top-tier brands on new and refreshed customer experiences. Here’s a sneak peek at some of our 2011 retail & restaurant collaborations that have recently opened or expect to unveil in the next month or so. Be on the lookout for more information on these exciting store openings, brand launches and innovative concepts in the new year. For now, enjoy the coming attractions!

Danier: Leather. It’s okay to touch the fashion.
Danier is North America’s leading vertically integrated designer, manufacturer and retailer of quality leather apparel and accessories for women and men. Chute Gerdeman partnered with this Canadian-based fashion retailer to develop a new store experience that reflects a more fashion-first experience.

The mix of materials—concrete floor, subway tile, live edge wood, mirrored stripes, distressed metal, high gloss, chrome and acrylic—gives the space a high-touch, sensory feel. We even enlisted an arborist to create feature tables with the care and attention they deserve.

Gifting Grace: The perfect gift, every time.
Chute Gerdeman joined the savvy merchants behind Gifting Grace as brand development partners. With customer research as the foundation for retail strategy, we developed the personality, tone of voice, brand identity and logo and packaging that expresses the uniqueness of the concept.

Champs Sports: Game on!
Champs Sports, one of America’s largest specialty athletic footwear and apparel stores, needed to up their game. Providing sports-centric male customers with first team assortment and experience was key.

Industrial rolling racks, concrete floors and bleachers give the new space an authentic, confident feel. And in line with the core customers’ personality, the space has just the right amount of swagger for making an end run around the competition.

BTC Powered by LIME: Bringing the Bahamas All Together
The team created an experiential retail flagship store design for this burgeoning Bahamian telecommunications brand. The environment reflects the island culture and sensibilities. The customer experience supports how customers uniquely connect with friends and family—bringing the islands together.

Checkers: Functional Design
The strategy behind the new prototype is based simply on helping franchisee entrepreneurs open their businesses faster and easier, while offering customers more of the signature Checkers experience they love.

The most recognizable brand elements from current Checkers restaurants—checkerboard accents, and a bold white, red and yellow color scheme—remained part of the new prototype. Engaging customers and franchisees alike, the updated Checkers drive-thru brings new life to a classic concept.

Pick Up Stix: Rapid Restaurant Refresh
After designing the Pick Up Stix prototype several years ago, our team was called upon again to expand on the vision with a more modern look. The refresh included updates to materials and finishes, colors, furniture and key visual brand elements. The solution is a bright and modern design implemented in a cost-effective way.

Dunkin’ Donuts: Turn Up the Coffee Cues!
The Dunkin’ brand enjoys amazing recognizability and unparalleled customer loyalty. Their coffee earns rave reviews from the toughest critics. CG’s job? Create a prototype that elevates Dunkin’s coffee cred while maintaining their strong presence in bakery and sandwiches. The new prototype creates a space efficient enough for the on-the-go customer and comfortable for the “take-5” crowd. Rich coffee hues dominate the space without sacrificing Dunkin’s core brand personality.

Wood has a powerful appeal that is simultaneously magnificent and modest. It has the exceptional quality of being naturally suited in both vintage and modern contexts, and offers a familiarity of texture that can still surprise. While there are many great examples of unexpected uses of wood in retail and hospitality destinations, with the help of my colleagues—thanks Katie, Nicole, and Jay—we selected a few favorite wood-centric environments worth sharing.
