Summer in the City
Best Patio Best Ice Cream Best Song
Every city has its defining summer moment. Whether you're skating the pier at Venice Beach, strolling tree-lined streets in Toronto, or simply sweltering in your own home town, summer evokes distinctive and lasting memories. The songs, the smells, the flavors of these magical months get locked in our brains in such a powerful way that just a whiff of Coppertone can bring back that great va-cay at the beach; the smell of the grill makes you hunger for best burger ever; and a song...a song can instantly conjure up an exact time, a place, and people we've almost forgotten. As summer winds to a close, we kicked back and reflected on some of our own personal summer bests.

Renee Kinkopf
Haiku - Columbus, OH
City View Tavern - Mt. Adams, Cincinnati, OH
El Meson - Dayton, OH, amazing South American cuisine.

The Revolver, in Findlay, OH, has to be my favorite patio. It has a lot of atmosphere at night with the candles lit. The food from local farmers is awesome.
Rodrick Pauley
The Standard Hotel Biergarten - NYC
Wendy Johnson
Pusser's Marina Cay - British Virgin Islands
Steve Johnson
Nestled in the heart of historic downtown Charleston, SC, is the Blind Tiger Pub. The location has been an operating pub since 1803. We used to have cocktails and food out back on the outdoor deck and stone patio, which has soft lighting and fountains. There are plenty of quaint nooks and little tables around each corner of the historic garden's walls and arches which give one privacy.
Bess Anderson
Sassafraz - Yorkville, downtown Toronto
Denny Gerdeman
Lindey's - German Village, Columbus, OH
Allison Short
The Pub Polaris, Columbus, OH, because it's close to my house and it's got shade, great people-watching, and flowers.
Rob Turner
Smugglers Wharf - Erie, PA

One of my most favorite patios is in Glen Arbor, MI at Boone Dock's. It is actually a very large deck that overlooks the main drag of downtown Glen Arbor with lots of picnic tables and umbrellas. There are always a couple of musicians playing and the beer is cold. It's a great place to hang with the family after playing in the sun on the beaches of Lake Michigan all day.

Moosetracks from Sunset Cove on Marble Lake, Quincy, MI
Gretchen Ardizzone
Pistachio Gelato at Pino Gelato, Hilton Head Island, SC

Graeter's mint chocolate chip. I grew up in Cincinnati with Graeter's French Pot Ice Cream. Now in Columbus, my family gets our ice cream fix with only a short walk.
We're big fans of Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams.
Here are some of our favorites.

Without any hesitation whatsoever, it has to be Jimmy Buffett. This year we kicked off summer with a Jimmy Buffett concert in Cincinnati on May 17th. It was a great concert; assume tailgate and a lot of fun with friends.
