As Chute Gerdeman Retail’s Material & Trend Specialist, Katie Clements is involved in all retail projects providing design support as a materials and color expert. She utilizes her vast knowledge and extensive library to present clients with well considered selections for fabric, carpet, tile, wallcovering, lighting, furniture and any other special project features.
Katie’s material recommendations were recently published in VMSD and NAILS magazine.
In the past months Katie has recognized changes in surfacing trends. She says that texture is key and gloss, shimmer, and embossing are taking over the flat, matte carpets and wallcoverings.
Here are Katie’s top ten trends in surfacing for March 2008:

Trend #1
Metallic and pearlescent paints—With a continued need for “affordable opulence” in times of tighter budgets, these paints can create an upscale feel in retail.

Solid but bold upholstery fabric—Make a statement with a vibrant yellow ottoman or a grass green lounge chair.
